Charity expedition to Rolwaling, Nepal 2020
Join us on this beautiful trek through the Rolwaling valley in Nepal! It’s called ’the hidden sacred valley’ as it’s more remote and less visited than the major areas. We can expect the famous hospitality of the Nepali as well as the beautiful nature and stunning mountain range of Himalaya. As both your guides are interested in Buddhism and philosophy it will both be a spiritual and physical journey including some breathing training, meditation and stretching each day as well as cultural stops along the way. And climbing a mountain!
The trek will go through the valley as a charity trek, and we’ll help a few villages as we pass them. We’ll arrive at the end of the valley at the beautiful mountain Ramdung. It’s a fairly easy climb without needing more gear than crampons, rope and harness. We’ll team up with a few more Sherpas during the hike that will help and teach you what you need to be able to summit. This is a suitable climb for beginners. We want you to have some previous experience of hiking, and that you are prepared to do more training before this trip.
Your main guides is Annelie Pompe and Chhiring Dorje Sherpa, more than 10 years of climbing in Nepal together.
About Charity and Volunteering Opportunity
Our proposed monetary charity contribution will be given to the Rolwaling Sangag Choling School in Beding village, which is a community run free school in the valley. This school is a very unique and an important community project completely envisioned and managed by the local Sherpa community, with the sole aim of creating access to education and preserve local culture.
This school has been quite successful in achieving its objectives and continues to do so. At present the school provides free lodging, food and education to 25 young children and plans to expand its capacity to accommodate more children.
One of the major challenge of the school is the funding, especially for the food and transportation costs, which is so obvious because it is located in a remote mountain area accessible only by two days of walk. So, our contribution money will go to the school to cover these costs.
Apart from funding the school children are always short on warm clothing. They might even stay home because they don’t have warm enough clothes to go out in winter. If you have any old childrens winter clothes or toys, drawing tools it will be much appreciated if you bring these as charity.
Volunteering Opportunity:
If someone wants to engage in volunteer teaching, then there’s an opportunity to teach at the school. The major role of the volunteer teacher shall be to teach English language course book to students from grade one to grade six. And the minimum time the volunteer should contribute is for two months. During the volunteering period lodging and food shall be arranged by the school in its premises.
